Sun Tzu and the Art of Fly Fishing

This book illustrates the fundamentals of fly fishing by connecting, in a graphic novel format, the principles of Sun Tzu with the basic topics that make up fly fishing. The ancient philosopher/general Sun Tzu is a legendary authority on the art of war. At its most basic, "The Art of War" is about competition. Fly fishing is a competitive endeavor. Sun Tzu's basic principle is "know your enemy and know yourself." He teaches fly fishing to a student by relating quotes from his treatise to illustrate fly fishing concepts. The intent is to minimize the narrative and rely on illustration to teach concepts. We also meet Murphy, the mythical soldier who originated "Murphy's Law" - if it CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong. Murphy provides comment on Sun Tzu's principles, adds a touch of humor, and makes the point that it's OK to make mistakes and struggle while learning fly fishing.
